Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) is a federally financed Export Credit Agency established in 1991 to promote the diversification and development of Nigeria’s non-oil export sector, including agribusiness. Jointly owned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Ministry of Finance Incorporated, NEXIM provides financial services such as export credit guarantees, credit insurance, and loans in local and foreign currencies to support exporters. It also offers trade advisory services, maintains a foreign exchange revolving fund for importing inputs needed for export production, and facilitates trade information systems. In the agribusiness context, NEXIM supports exporters of agricultural commodities (e.g., cocoa, sesame, or cashew) by providing financing for production, equipment, and market access, contributing to foreign exchange earnings and economic development.
