Uturu Slaughter Slab is a local meat processing facility situated in Ukwunwangwu, a community within Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria. The facility primarily serves the surrounding rural and peri-urban populations by slaughtering cattle, goats, and sheep for domestic consumption. However, the operation faces significant challenges related to environmental and public health concerns. A study published in the Asian Journal of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition highlights the adverse impacts of abattoir waste on soil quality in the area. The research identified contamination from bone, dung, and slurry waste, which has led to soil degradation and poses potential risks to local agriculture and water sources .
