Nigeria/West Africa Cocoa Origins Meet EU Cocoa Industry
A Matchmaking Forum · Thursday, 29 October 2026 · Brussels, Belgium On the sidelines of the Nigeria–Belgium–Luxembourg Business Forum
The EU-Nigeria Agribusiness Platform (EUNAP), with the support of the European Cocoa Association (ECA), is convening a high-level matchmaking forum that brings West African cocoa origins face to face with the European cocoa industry. It puts concentrated European demand in the same room as origin-country exporters, cocoa-producing regional governments, and the financing institutions that can de-risk expansion — at the precise moment sourcing is being redrawn.
The scale on the European side is significant: the ECA represents 61 member companies accounting for roughly 95% of Europe's cocoa bean grinding and 80% of its industrial chocolate production. This Forum connects that demand directly with the producers, cooperatives, exporters and processors of Nigeria and the wider West African region.
Why now
From 30 December 2026, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) applies to large and medium operators — redrawing how, and from where, European industry must source cocoa. For EU buyers, security of supply from organised, traceable origins has never mattered more; for West African producers, EU-market readiness is the difference between growing their share and losing it.
The Forum meets that moment deliberately, and it does so region to region: West African producing regions engaging European industry as a bloc, rather than three separate national pitches. Ageing tree stock, smallholder-dominated production and traceability gaps are shared, region-wide challenges — and a shared conversation is more credible to industry, more attractive to financiers, and more effective in Brussels.
Four matchmaking tracks
Business-to-Business (B2B) — Structured meetings between ECA member companies and vetted cocoa traders, exporters and cooperatives from Nigeria, with outreach extended to Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.
Business-to-Finance (B2F) — Linking cocoa-sector enterprises and bankable projects with development finance institutions and impact investors.
Business-to-Government (B2G) — Dialogue between European industry, the European Commission, and the trade and agriculture ministries of the producing countries, on sustainable expansion, replanting finance and youth integration.
Region-to-Region (R2R) — Pairing West Africa's cocoa-cultivating regions — beginning with Nigeria's South West cocoa belt (Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti) and the Cross River/Edo axis — with Europe's cocoa-processing regions, toward twinning agreements and joint investment frameworks. It rests on a simple symmetry: Europe's processing regions depend on beans grown in West Africa's cocoa belts, and those cultivating regions need long-term demand and investment to expand.
Nigeria's investment priorities
Nigeria will present four flagship cocoa investment projects as live partnership opportunities — spanning farm-level traceability infrastructure, in-country processing capacity, an EUDR-compliant Nigeria cocoa origin brand, and smallholder rehabilitation and replanting. Full project profiles will be made available to registered investors and partners through the Forum's Investment Wall.

Why participate
- Security of supply ahead of the EUDR date — direct access to organised, traceable West African origin before enforcement begins
- A single, government-backed counterparty — engagement through EUNAP rather than fragmented outreach to individual exporters
- Early visibility on investable projects — first access to traceability, processing, origin-branding and smallholder programmes
- A regional, not single-country, solution — one forum addressing a challenge shared across Nigeria, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire
- A shared advocacy dividend — a joint voice for expanded EU support to the West African cocoa sector
Save the date — Thursday, 29 October 2026, Brussels, Belgium.
