Okin Biscuits Limited, incorporated on May 2, 1978, in Kaduna, Nigeria, and later based in Offa, Kwara State, was a prominent biscuit manufacturer founded by Chief Emmanuel Oyekunle Adesoye, a notable Nigerian patriarch who also established Adesoye College. Production began on June 2, 1980, with the Coaster brand, followed by Short Cake (1984) and Cabin (1996). Headquartered at Ajasse-Ipo Road, Ijagbo, Offa, the company was structured into departments including production, accounts, engineering, marketing, security, and administration, each led by a manager. Once a household name in Nigeria, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, Okin Biscuits faced challenges from imported biscuit competition, poor management, and economic shifts, leading to its reported closure years ago. In 2017, the 29-acre factory was listed for sale for $20 million, with equipment and brands included, though no sale was confirmed. The company’s decline reflects broader trends of Nigerian family businesses struggling post-founder, exacerbated by infrastructure challenges in rural areas like Offa.
