The Coconut Plantation and Oil Refinery, managed by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Agriculture, is a flagship agribusiness initiative in Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi, and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas, launched by former Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2017. The St. Gabriel Coconut Oil Factory, inaugurated in May 2022, is Africa’s largest coconut oil refinery, with a capacity to process 300,000 coconuts daily (scalable to 1 million), producing high-value virgin coconut oil for global markets.
